Felpham Village, Bognor Regis, UK
We are having a fantastic time at Anna's! Her house is lovely and just a short walk from the beach. Charlotte loves it because some of the rocks on the beach are chalk. She likes to spot them and then use them to write on the pavement. The weather is mild and sunny--we're really enjoying it.
Wednesday night, we had dinner with my Hull friend John at Cafe Rouge in Covent Garden, where we had a great meal and an even better conversation. Then he took us on a sightseeing walk: Trafalgar Square, the Thames, 10 Downing Street, etc. It was great to see him and the city.
The next day, Charlotte and I went to the Science Museum and the Toy Kingdom at Harrods. The best part was a boat ride on the Serpentine in Hyde Park. Charlotte would probably say that the best part was riding on the top level of a red bus. Next, we collected our luggage and got the train to Bognor Regis. For the last half hour or so of the trip, we had the train car to ourselves, so Charlotte started using the pull-down tray tables as computers in one of her favorite games, insurance. Yes, my creative, imaginative child likes to pretend to sell insurance.
It was so nice to see Anna again, and to meet Mark and Alex! Friday, our first full day here, was amazing. Anna drove us to Arundel, where we explored the castle (parts of which date back to 1066, walked through the village, and, best of all, had afternoon tea at the Black Rabbit, a pub restaurant right on the River Arun. We lingered over tea and dessert (banoffee creme brulee for Anna and me, a brownie with Devonshire cream ice cream for Charlotte) at a picnic table overlooking the river and just enjoyed the company, the atmosphere, and the remarkable weather. To them it's hot; to me, it's a lovely, springlike day.
Finally, Anna took us to Tesco Express (aka Tiny Tesco). [Note: I love grocery stores.] Woot!
